Candice and Kingsley

Candice and Kingsley’s wedding at Little Milton Church and Lains Barn was a wonderful day back in November last year. It was a blustery day, so blustery in fact that during the evening speeches at Lains Barn the wind actually caused the power to cut. Luckily there were plenty of candles on hand and thankfully power was restored and all was well.

There was no coverage of the bridal preparations so it was straight to Little Milton Church to meet Kingsley and the guests who were anxiously awaiting the arrival of the bride.

Following a beautiful ceremony at Little Milton Church the couple then jumped into the waiting Porche and raced off to Lains Barn for the reception. I’ve shot many weddings at Lains Barn in my time and it’s certainly a beautiful venue – albeit one of the darker venues I’ve worked out. Aside from the little power cut during the speeches the reception went without a hitch and I left the couple to dance the night away.

I thoroughly enjoyed Candice and Kingsley’s wedding at Little Milton Church and Lains barn. Here are some of my favourite from the day. Please feel free to leave the couple some love in the comments section below and of course please do share this on your favourite social media sites.

A Downton Abbey Wedding

Downton Abbey wedding Bampton

“We are so delighted with your photography. Such a fantastic set of images.”

Aimee and Matt’s wedding was set to take place at the stunning St Mary’s church in Bampton, home of the hit TV show Downton Abbey. I had met the couple many months before when Aimee was bridesmaid for her friend Sophie at St Audries Park, and when they told me about their wonderful Downton Abbey wedding I was very excited.

Despite the fact I haven’t really watched much of Downton Abbey myself, I’m a sucker for a good church wedding and I certainly wasn’t disappointed here. St Mary’s church itself is nothing short of incredible and as the rear doors opened and Aimee peered in there was a real sense of drama unfolding. Following the ceremony everyone made the trip over to Lains Barn for the reception, a venue I know very well having shot both indoor and outdoor weddings there previously. The lovely barn makes a perfect host to both the meal and the evening dancing.

What a day. What an evening. Here are some of my favourites telling the story of Aimee and Matt’s Downton Abbey wedding. Please do leave the couple some love in the comments section below and of course feel free to share this on your favourite social media sites.

Christ Church Oxford Wedding Photography

Christ Church Oxford wedding

“We absolutely love the photographs”

Being a wedding photographer, I’m blessed with the good fortune of working in all manner of venues. Whether it’s a church or a registry office, a barn or a castle, a stately home or their parent’s home, from a photography point of view each venue offers its own unique wow factor that I can use as the backdrop for telling the story of each couples day. For Katherine and Thomas’ Christ Church Oxford wedding it had to be the church itself. I do love a grand church wedding and they don’t come much grander than Christ Church, situated right in the heart of the bustling Oxford City Centre.

From the moment I arrived I knew I was in for a treat. During my usual pre-ceremony chat with the vicar I asked whether he might have any preference or restrictions over my position and movements during the ceremony. I always reassure officiants about my discreet documentary style and the way I use available light rather than blasting the church with flash photography. As it transpires, the vicar is a keen amateur photographer himself and was more than happy to trust my professional judgement.

As anticipated, the ceremony was beautiful and afterwards the guests all made their way to the gardens behind Christ Church for an outdoor marquee reception in the glorious summer sunshine (whilst dodging a few very brief rain showers). A bit of daytime dancing and some of the best hog roast I have ever tasted rounded off the afternoon’s wedding celebrations.

Here are some of my highlights from Katherine and Thomas’ Christ Church wedding. If you’re planning an Oxford wedding and love the idea of real storytelling photography, please do get in touch to chat about your day.

Westwood Hotel Wedding Photography

Westwood Hotel wedding photography

“Your talent really shines through in the images we’ve received”

From the moment I arrived to photograph Melecia and Ankur’s Westwood Hotel wedding I was welcomed with open arms. Greeted by Melecia’s Uncle, Don, I made my way upstairs to photograph the girls all getting ready and found myself amongst one of the warmest families I have ever met. Melecia looked stunning as she made her way down the stairs and out to the waiting Bentley limousine. Then following a short drive around Oxford to the Westwood Hotel I met up with the boys.

Ankur was fairly calm and all the guests were in great spirits. Unfortunately one of Melecia’s relatives couldn’t be at the wedding due to her new baby’s arrival and the fact she currently lives overseas, but Don was on hand with the iPad and FaceTime to make sure they didn’t miss a minute of the ceremony. Following the civil ceremony the couple and their immediate family made their way for a small and intimate blessing before being bombarded with confetti as they rejoined their guests. The rest of the day went without a hitch and was perfect from start to finish.

Here are a selection of my favourite wedding photos from Melecia and Ankur’s Oxford wedding. Please do comment below and feel free to pin pictures to Pinterest and share this wedding on your favourite social sites.

If you’re planning an Oxford wedding at the Westwood Hotel please don’t hesitate to get in touch to discuss your own photography.

Bibury Court Wedding Photography | Anna & Louis

I have had the pleasure of photographing some truly fantastic weddings this year. This Bibury Court wedding was a little different to most. Anna and Louis live in Moscow. Louis is English and Anna, formerly a fashion model, is Russian. Louis spent his college years in Oxford and he really wanted Anna to see it for herself. So they decided to marry here and planned their Oxford wedding from nearly two thousand miles away.

The day started with me arriving at The Plough Inn, Clanfield, where Anna and Louis were both getting ready, to photograph some of the preparations and a short champagne drinks reception. The couple decided to spend the day together prior to the ceremony and so the couple, their guests, and myself, all jumped onto a 1950’s Bedford bus to take us into Oxford City centre. It was slow and rather hot (being one of the hottest days of the year I believe) but it was superb and made for a great atmosphere. From here we made our way to Magdalen College Oxford (Louis’ old college) for a tour around the grounds, complete with champagne pitstop. Louis then jumped onto the bus with the English guests and Anna and her Russian family and friends were given a short tour around Oxford as they made their way on foot to Oxford Registry Office. I joined them for the stroll.

Being models, Anna and her friends were certainly no strangers to the camera. My style is all about blending in and capturing moments as they happen. There was no real direction from me, as is my way on a wedding day, but I found myself really enjoying the moments where the girls played up for the camera. After a short and beautiful ceremony it was on to the picturesque Bibury Court in the Cotswolds, Gloucestershire, for more champagne, speeches, dinner and dancing.

Anna and Louis’ day was intimate, unique and beautiful. It was perfect. I was welcomed into the small gathering with open arms and I felt like more than just their wedding photographer. I felt like their friend. Anna, Louis, I wish you every happiness and look forward to seeing you again soon.

Documentary Wedding Photography at The Crazy Bear | Lisa & John

I met Lisa and Jon right back in July 2011 when they asked me to take their wedding photography at The Crazy Bear in Stadhampton. From the outset they highlighted their preference towards storytelling wedding photography rather than traditional set up shots. As a documentary wedding photographer this is a preference I share, since my style is based around emotion and storytelling.

Wedding photography at The Crazy Bear near Oxford is extremely fun, with the venue’s wonderfully eccentric mix of english heritage and modern additions. One thing I should note is that parts of this wonderful venue are pretty dark. The ceremony room, for example, has dark wood panelled walls and a black ceiling! Apart from a couple of uplighter lamps, the only real light source in this room are the windows to one side. However this gave some lovely side lighting on the couple as they said their vows.

Fast forward to the Queen’s Jubilee weekend and Lisa and Jon’s wedding which was crazy fun from start to finish. A real reflection of the couple themselves. I was certainly never short of moments to photograph and actually could have just photographed Lisa and Jon all day long, they looked so happy. I thought I should probably include a few of their guests as well though 😉

I addition to my documentary wedding photography, Lisa and Jon were also keen to have a video record of their day. So they turned to Shoot It Yourself who provided them with two small professional camcorders so their guests could record the day themselves. Shoot It Yourself then take all the footage and edit it together to make the film. It’s an interesting concept and I am very intrigued to see the finished film as I even took a few minutes footage on the camcorders myself.

Anyway, back to their wedding photography and some of my favourite moments of their special day.
